Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch
It was a generous donation of Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch, the eldest daughter of Robert Bosch, which enabled the existence of the IKP in the first place. At the end of 1973 it started its research activities with a total staff of 4.
Since then research efforts are directed on individualization and improvement of drug therapy - hand in hand with clinical research groups at the Robert-Bosch-Hospital (RBK) as well as with external co-operation partners.
Still, the enormous interindividual variability of drug efficacy – ranging from poor activity as well as adverse drug reactions (ADR) to toxic reactions – turns out to be a major problem. Meanwhile around 90 staff members of the research area of the IKP/RBK have accepted the challenge of solving this issue.
Every single new research project has to pass the expert opinion of an external scientific advisory board. Following the advice of the board and to ensure, that all eligible research projects can be conducted successfully, ever since the foundation of the IKP it was the Robert Bosch Stiftung (Stuttgart) taking care of the necessary financial support.
Within the current funding period the major research activities are focussed on Oncology and Pharmacogenomics.
