The lung as a drug target in pharmacology

There is increasing evidence that the lung is an important drug target for the treatment of different diseases such as asthma, COPD or lung cancer. In this context, we have recently established the animal model of the isolated perfused lung to investigate pharmacokinetics, such as adsorption and metabolite formation of drugs of interest following intravasal oder inhalative application and to study pharmacodynamics, e.g. respiratory parameters in response to drugs. In addition, the model of isolated lung perfusion in transgenic mice may contribute to the understanding of pathophysiology of lung diseases.
